One Day of Service

March 14th, 2015

We are SO excited to have been chosen for “One Day of Service” this year. There will be about 400 people here from local church youth groups and youth leaders to offer their labor for only one single day. We have many projects in mind and need your help!

We would like to add on to our barn to offer more full boarding spots and to ensure that our therapy horses have shelter, breaking our big pasture up into smaller paddock for better land/grass management, erecting run in sheds in these new pastures to make sure that the horses can get out of the cold wind and rain, redoing the fencing on our arena and adding to our footing in the arena, fixing our very large erosion issues that we are recently having at the back of our current barn, building a separate arena to offer private Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions, clearing brush from existing pasture fencing and rebuilding falling pasture fencing in order to keep our therapy horses safe. We also would like to put lights in our big arena so that we may offer sessions into the dark, winter hours.

In order to do all of this, we need to raise $12,000 or get as much supplies as we can donated. Please hit our contact page to email and see what supplies we need. Or see our volunteer/donate tab to donate through paypal. Our dreams may be big, but if we achieve them, we can do so much more for our local special needs community.

UPDATE!!!!!

Thank you so very much for supporting our program with One Day of Service, we couldn’t have done it without your help. It was an amazing time last Saturday!

Over 350 young teens came out from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sector from Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, Cumming, Peachtree Corners, Paper Mill, Birmingham, AL and also a few Portuguese and Spanish speaking members. It is very rare that the members choose to reach out of their sectors to do work, but they got word of our program and felt that could really help us out.

Throughout the day, the kids worked on clearing out the woods and chipping all of the branches that fell in the recent ice storm. They also completely rebuilt our arena fence, built us a new 60×90 arena for the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy program that we are starting next month and fixed pasture fencing, gates and aerated/over seeded all of our pastures. The kids learned how to build a French drain for the back of the barn and rerouted all of the clay so that our erosion issues should be cleared up. They also fixed up our round pen by rerouting the erosion and replacing a few posts that were getting washed out on one of the corners. Lastly, they kids learned how to lay a cement handicapped parking pad and finish out the cement.

It was wonderful to see these teens giving up their Saturday to do real, farm labor and know that they are helping some great kids who ride and do therapy here. We had many clients that stopped by to thank them for their work and also my own volunteers who had come to help in any way they could and who were welcomed with open arms. On Sunday, we were invited to the Youth Group Conference in Marietta where some of the kids had the chance to stand up and talk about their experience on our farm. I’m not embarrassed to say that my eyes welled up a few times. Thank you to every single person and business that has made this day possible. It really does take a community to make something of this magnitude come true.
